Welcome from IDGN!

Welcome...

IDGN (IceDragon Game Network)
is a site built on the idea of forming an online gaming community.  This is a place where gamers, game writers, game hackers, those trying to break into the industry etc. can all come together to provide information for each other's benefit.  The content is nonbiased and unaffiliated with any game or software companies.  Therefore we can talk about things like modifications, legal issues, games, code or pretty much any other topics related to the industry or hobby.

However there's not going to be any "how to" guides for copying games or anything like that on here, nor will any content actually break any legal boundaries.  So look for that type of content elsewhere if that's what you're after.

We do ask that you create an account though to take part in this community.  This is simply done as part of our "0" tolerance spamming / flaming policy.  We report all spamming and advertising activity to SpamHaus so that they can blacklist the individual's networks globally.  In order to get this information users accounts are required.  The information you provide is not used for any other reason.

Thanks and enjoy your stay...

US High-Speed Internet Is Anything But High-Speed
Game Industry Education We've all complained about our less then shining examples of high-speed internet here in the states.  For anyone that's set foot in any other technology driven countries around the world it's eye opening to just how vastly lacking the states really are.  A group called CWA has went to congress with information about internet speeds to show how behind we really are.

It’s impressively depressing.

Here's a small snippet of the article and a link to the full read...

Teachers get an "F" for listening to students
Game Industry Education
As gamers we've known this for years... it's nice to see it spelled out though in a national study.  Here's a few quote from the findings.  The URL to the full story will follow:

"According to the survey, students’ frustration with school filters and firewalls has grown since 2003, with 45 percent of middle and high school students now saying that these tools designed to protect them inhibit their learning. And 40 percent of students in grades 6-12 cite their teacher as an obstacle to their use of technology in school."  ...

"What’s more, there seems to be a disconnect between what students want from their own education and what the adults in charge think is best."

Of course we as gamers are left scratching our heads and saying to ourselves "This is new news?!?".  However when the sources are educational research groups, that is new.  :)

Time Shift -- From shifting time to shifting quality
Windows Games You know if I could really shift time I think I would back up about 48 hours and stop myself from buying this game.

I recently picked up Time Shift based on a friend’s recommendation.  It looked good, and sounded like a solid plot and design.  So far I’ve spent nearly 3 hours trying to get it to run, and spent most of that time watching the system blue screen and reboot.  The forums of full of users just like me.  Was the release a rush to beat Crysis out to market, or Unreal 3?  Who knows... at this point I'm not even sure I care.  With any luck you're not seeing the same issues.

Windows Vista -- Getting Stoned
Windows Games
Yep, you heard me correctly.  Apparently after 13 years the old stoned virus is now turning up on some "preinstalled" Vista systems.  For those that aren't old enough to remember what an LP record is, let alone a virus that was around 13 years back; the Stoned virus was a "boot sector" bug...

Bioshock - SecuROM -- two strikes and your CD is out!
Windows Games
As I’m sure many of you are already aware Bioshock (the new smash hit 2K game title for PC / Xbox 360) is coming with a bit of a blast from the past.  They’re using an older type of copy protection with a few updated twists.  Back in the early 80’s there were several software programs that came with a protection scheme that basically forced the software owner to uninstall the software using the install disks.  Should you forget to do that then the install disks actually counted the number of installs and eventually disabled themselves after two or three installs without an uninstall.

Donkey Kong Cartoon
Game Humor Great cartoon based on the old Donkey Kong game.  I'm going to say this is rated PG due to some bad language.  The site it comes from I can't really speak for either since this video is all I've watched from it.  Over all I would say it's not all work safe... this video is arguably not work safe.

Now that I've peeked your interest here's the video that asks the question we've all wondered about the Donkey Kong game.  :)

Vista's failures explained
Windows Games
An open rant to Microsoft by Charlie Demerjian (IT specialist) that makes some very good points about Vista that should be considered before installing it on your PC.  I would highly suggest reading this if Vista is on your list of things you want to install.

For the record I neither love or hate Microsoft, I simply read the facts and decide what's best for me personally based on them.  I suggest you do the same.  :)

Browse Differnt - Apple's latest Safari for Windows
Mac Games
First things first (so I don't get a flame war here) I'm not a PC, Mac, Linux, or SGI guy... I'm all the above and like them all.  Each has their advantages and their weaknesses.  However I do have to say that I enjoy picking (purely in fun) on Mac systems particularly since they seem to have that "we never make any mistakes" attitude and defend it with a vengeance, even when confronted with the mistakes.

They've made such a mistake yet again with their latest version of the Safari browser they're trying to push on Windows users.  The newest version (which I would highly suggest not downloading at this time) refuses to show bold text.  On many web site (probably this one as well) that means a good chunk of the content is missing along with most of the menu items and links.  I guess when they say "browse different" they mean it.
